Dakotafish - Great Ones
The guys of LA based Dakotafish are always up to speed with all of the new sounds. Last summer we were hit with Jitter and Impossible Histories, two awesome singles both glittering and bouncing in heavy synth. Their new track Great Ones is perfect for this cool March. They took a slightly different this time and even without the synth based electronics found in previous works, it does sound stellar.
They’re in the middle of recording a new LP, due out June 21st. We’ve still got a few months but it’ll be worth it, trust me.

Dakotafish Great Ones
Givin’ LA some love today. Dakotafish is something serious. Only hearing three songs, this duo has already captured my tiny black heart and has got me scowering the net for tour dates. C’mon boys I want to be your groupie. Throw me a bone.
But seriously, Dakotafish is Death Cab’s answer to happiness and Ace of Base’s long lost cousin, and is that a pinch of Lord Huron and Avi Buffalo influences that I smell? It’s definitely something else, that I just can’t pinpoint….yet. Be sure to head over their Bandcamp to check out Jitter/Impossible Histories too.

Dakotafish - Great Ones
It’s been a while since we last heard material from L.A. based Dakotafish. This is massive.. I mean this song literally feels massive. “Great Ones” seems so different from the two tracks released last summer “Jitter” and “Impossible Histories”. Where “Jitter” was more of a glitchy pop track, and “Impossible Histories” a playful/almost funky song.. “Great Ones” is solid. It’s hard to listen and not think of Local Natives, or Glass Vaults (their song “Forget Me Not,” in particular)—pretty much any act that combines great vocals and prominent percussion. A wonderful return for Dakotafish! Nice to see some of our favorite acts from last summer beginning to release material again.
Be sure to download Great Ones from bandcamp for free.

LA based Dakotafish are about the nicest guys you’ll hope to meet. They hit us last summer with two awesome singles Jitter and Impossible Histories, both glittering and bouncing with sunlight and summer. And just as seasonally appropriate as those were, the new Great Ones is just as appropriate for the current season. A bit of a departure from the synth based electronics used in previous stuff, but a surprisingly solid sound.
They’re recording some more stuff as we speak, so we should expect a bit of a collection soon. And for those of you in LA, be on the lookout for shows in the coming few months.
